Bernie Sanders at State Fair: ‘Trump Is a Racist, a Sexist, a Homophobe, a Xenophobe, and a Religious Bigot’

Presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) toured the Minnesota State Fair Saturday and later spoke at a grassroots fundraiser in Minneapolis alongside Attorney General Keith Ellison, who endorsed Sanders in the campaign.

Sanders was pictured touring the fair grounds and shooting some hoops with WCCO, and spoke to a large crowd gathered at Minnesota Public Radio’s booth.

Sanders immediately tore into President Donald Trump, calling him the “most dangerous” president in the nation’s history.

“It is absolutely imperative for the future of this country that we defeat the most dangerous president in American history. This country cannot continue to have a president who is a pathological liar, who conducts public policy via tweet, who is a racist, a sexist, a homophobe, a xenophobe, and a religious bigot,” Sanders said to applause.

“It is not just about defeating Trump,” he continued. “This country today faces enormous problems. For the last 45 to 50 years, there has been a war against the working families of this country, and almost all new income and wealth is going to the top one percent. We need an economy, we need a government, that represents all of us, not just wealthy campaign contributors.”

Later Saturday night, Sanders spoke to a crowd of supporters in Minneapolis, where he was introduced by Attorney General Ellison.

“Let me tell you what we want to abolish: we want to abolish people dying because they cannot afford their medicine,” Ellison said. “We want to abolish people going bankrupt because they get sick.”

Ellison went on to say that President Trump “is not just some routine, ignorant racist,” but a “smart racist.”

He later criticized ICE and said America doesn’t need to “criminalize and militarize our border.”

“I want you to know that Keith Ellison is redefining what an attorney general can be in terms of standing up for working people and standing up for justice and fighting discrimination in all forms,” Sanders began his speech.
